The train station in Xi'an is situated in the northeast of the town and is just outside the city wall. The Longhai Railway Line runs all the way from the eastern coast to the western inland area, Xi`an is a major stop for trains heading either west or east and the line actually splits here. Some trains head north to Beijing and others east to Shanghai. There are direct trains from Xi'an to Beijing (14 hrs), Shanghai(16 hrs), Guangzhou (27 hours), Chengdu (16 hrs), and Urumuqi(43 hrs). The completion of the Xi'an--Ankang Railway Line that has cut down the distance (500km!) and time between Xi'an and Chongqing. This will be a good way to reach this distant city and start your Three Gorges Tour.
